Video Production Checklist
Here is a checklist of tasks to complete when producing a simple video:
Pre-Production
- [ ] Develop a script or outline
- [ ] Define a start and an end
- [ ] Write down your story as a star
- [ ] Add a Call-To-Action
- [ ] Choose a location for filming
- [ ] Schedule a time for filming
- [ ] Secure any necessary permits or permissions
- [ ] Gather all necessary equipment (camera, microphone, headphones,…)
- [ ] Plan & Test audio and sound
- [ ] Remember that using tools you're not familiar with can be risky
- [ ] Create a storyboard/shot list
- [ ] Scout the location and check it out
- [ ] Check the potential noise pollution
- [ ] Check where the sun is at the time of your shoot
- [ ] Make sure the location is not too dark or has mixed light sources
- [ ] Secure permissions for locations

- [ ] Plan wardrobe for protagonist. It should fit the mood of your video.
- [ ] Plan your shots for the day
Production
- [ ] Set up camera and lighting
- [ ] Frame your shots and think about camera behavior (movement/angle)
- [ ] Signal the person in front of the camera to start and then rest for 3 seconds before you say cut
- [ ] Conduct a rehearsal or run-through with protagonist
- [ ] Record footage according to script or outline
- [ ] Take multiple takes of scenes if necessary
- [ ] Monitor audio levels to ensure quality sound
- [ ] Give feedback to your protagonist and make them feel good
- [ ] Repeat the process as necessary
- [ ] Record additional b-roll footage for use in editing
