GitHub is a built-in extension in VSCode (you have most probably heard of it), offering a powerful AI coding assistant, which can analyze, edit, and extend your whole codebase. GitHub is offering a free membership to students, you just need to prove that you are one.

Step-by-step guide on how to request a free GitHub Copilot membership

Step 1: Go to https://github.com/education/students and click on “Join GitHub Education”

Step 2: Log in to your GitHub account (or create a new one) - it is best if your GitHub account is linked to your ETH email (you will need to do this in step 4 anyway, if that is not the case)

Step 3: You should see a page with the title “GitHub Education”, click on “Start an application” (like seen below)

If your primary email address of your GitHub account (the one that is selected in the popup) is not your ETH email address, click on “Add it here” and add your ETH email address to your account. Then you can continue with the sign-up (you will find the application for GitHub education under “Billing and licensing”, then “Education benefits” in the left sidebar.
